Starting from Fez towards Ifrane, the landscape varies with altitude. After crossing the agricultural plain of Saiss with olive trees, you first reach a fruit-growing region (apples, pears, apricots, peaches …) located around Imouzzer Kandar at an altitude of 1000 to 1300 m before reaching the floor of green oak forests, then upstairs majestic cedar forests, over 1500m. Above, over 2000m, on forest plateaus down to give way to vast landscape of steppes, instead of summer transhumance. Each season has its charms and colors. Spring, between March and May according to altitude is especially beautiful. Bring warm clothes, the weather is often cold and rough from November to May, the days of bad weather. Snow is common.

For those who love the quiet, several houses and inns welcome visitors into the countryside.
Azrou means "rock" or "stone" in the Berber language. The town is located in the heart of the Middle Atlas region of Morocco between Meknes, Fez, Ifrane, Midelt and Khenifra. The N13 road connects Azrou to Meknes in the north. The Cèdre Gouraud Forest is located to the north, where one of the sub-populations of the Barbary Macaque, Macaca sylvanus is found.
Is unique. It is a heritage of paramount importance for Morocco and for humanity. Nowadays, most of the tourists visiting the forest are not aware of the role it plays for Morocco by lack of information! Some local and international organizations develop advocacy threats that put this invaluable Heritage in Danger. An interpretive center ( “home of the cedar forest”) will soon see light in Azrou and this should help to raise awareness and motivate visitors to discover the region in a responsible approach that respects nature. Each visitor can become an ambassador of the cedar forest. This is worth it.
